Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers to help you better understand my approach, services, and how we can work together.

  • At Empath Wealth, being a trauma-aware financial advisory firm means recognizing that financial decisions are shaped by more than logic. They are influenced by your history, emotions, and lived experience.

Following the trauma-aware principles of the Missouri Model, we acknowledge that trauma is widespread and can show up in how you relate to money, whether it’s avoidance, anxiety, guilt, or hyper-independence. We don’t pathologize these responses. We understand them.

Rather than rushing to fix or optimize, we begin by creating emotional safety. We meet you with empathy and curiosity, honoring your pace and process. From that place of trust, we work with you to build a financial life that feels aligned, intentional, and grounded in who you truly are.

  • I work with anyone seeking financial wellness guidance, financial planning, or investment management, whether you are starting fresh or deepening the path you are already on.

While I welcome clients from all backgrounds, I especially support Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) and those who feel drawn to a more compassionate, culturally aware approach to wealth. As a second-generation Asian American, I am also attuned to the lived experiences of the AANHPI community, including the emotional layers of money shaped by culture, family, and identity.

You do not need to have it all figured out. All that is required is a willingness to explore.

  • A Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) is someone with a finely tuned nervous system and a deep way of processing the world. The term was coined by psychologist Dr. Elaine Aron, whose research shows that about 1 in 5 people share this innate trait, known as sensory-processing sensitivity.

    HSPs often:

    • Notice subtle details and shifts in their environment

    • Feel deeply, both emotionally and physically

    • Need time and space to process before responding

    • Become overstimulated in loud, fast-paced, or high-pressure settings

    • Reflect deeply and make rich internal associations

This trait is not a flaw. It is a natural variation in human temperament. HSPs tend to be empathic, intuitive, creative, and attuned to meaning in a way that can feel both intense and beautiful.

  • Financial Wellness Guidance is a supportive space to explore the emotional side of money. It helps you understand the beliefs, patterns, and nervous system responses that shape how you relate to finances.

    This work may include:

    • Navigating stress or overwhelm connected to money

    • Exploring money stories or financial trauma

    • Understanding the protective behaviors behind your habits

    • Reconnecting with your sense of safety, agency, and values

    • Building self-trust in your financial decisions

It’s not about fixing what’s wrong. It’s about gently exploring what you’ve learned, what you’ve carried, and what might be ready to shift. The goal is to support a more grounded, compassionate, and empowered relationship with money, one that reflects your values and honors your lived experience.

  • Holistic financial planning helps you make sense of your financial life, practically and emotionally. It weaves together strategy, values, and lived experience to support decisions that feel both sound and self-honoring.

Depending on your goals and life season, your financial plan may include (but isn’t limited to):

    • Annual comprehensive financial plan

    • Clarifying your values and setting meaningful financial goals

    • Cash flow and spending analysis

    • Debt repayment strategies

    • Insurance review

    • College savings and education planning

    • Support for major life decisions, including career transitions, relocation, sabbaticals, or starting a family

    • Portfolio allocation review

    • 401(k) investment monitoring

    • Pension payout analysis

    • Tax strategizing (in collaboration with your CPA)

    • Retirement and financial independence planning

Every client is different. Some focus on just a few of these areas, while others explore more. Together, we’ll create a customized roadmap that supports the life you want to live, at a pace that feels safe, spacious, and aligned.

  • My investment philosophy is rooted in thoughtfulness, alignment, and sustainability, both emotionally and financially.

I focus on long-term, evidence-based strategies that align with your values, goals, and comfort level with risk. Portfolios are primarily built with a diversified mix of low-cost, passive investments, often using ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds) that offer broad market exposure with minimal fees. When appropriate, I may include a sprinkle of active investments to capture unique opportunities or align with specific goals.

Whenever possible, I also incorporate socially responsible and values-aligned investments, so your portfolio reflects what matters most to you.

Above all, I believe investing should feel clear, intentional, and grounded, helping you grow your wealth in a way that honors both your financial goals and personal values.

  • I’m a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional with nearly a decade of experience in the financial services industry, including private wealth management.

I’m also a Trauma of Money™ Certified practitioner, trained to recognize how past experiences, identity, and nervous system responses can influence financial behavior. This certification allows me to integrate trauma-aware principles with traditional financial strategy.

In addition, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in Sociology, which shaped my early understanding of how financial systems interact with individual behavior, culture, and society.

And beyond formal training, I bring a lifetime of lived experience with all things related to money, from navigating cultural expectations to healing my own money story. That journey continues to inform the way I hold space, build trust, and guide others toward clarity and empowerment.

Together, these experiences allow me to offer guidance that’s both technically sound and emotionally attuned, so your financial plan supports not just your wealth, but your well-being.
